Tomah Health recognizes MDs with donations

Tomah Health medical operations director Dr. Jill Boulden, left, presented ceremonial checks to Families First of Monroe County board member Jessica Grauel and Chasing Daylight Animal Shelter treasurer Sharel Martin to mark Doctors’ Day.

Tomah Health thanked area doctors by supporting two area not-for-profit organizations March 31.

In recognition of Doctors’ Day, $1,000 donations were given to Chasing Daylight Animal Shelter and Families First of Monroe County on behalf of the hospital and its providers.

“We are very fortunate to have a great medical staff that helps us provide quality health care services to Tomah and the surrounding communities 365 days a year,” said Tomah Health Medical Operations director Dr. Jill Boulden. “As a community hospital the recognition is an important way to support organizations that share in hospital’s mission and a small way to show our appreciation to area health care professionals.”

Chasing Daylight Animal Shelter treasurer Sharel Martin said the contribution will help support operations at the shelter near Tomah. “The funds are extremely appreciated more than anybody probably realizes. We do not receive any governmental funds from anybody, so we are highly dependent and reliant on the community supporting us. Those funds are a necessity to our function to allow us to provide the medical care that the animals need,” added Martin.

Families First of Monroe County board member Jessica Grauel said the donation is greatly appreciated. “The funds that we attain in our county all stay in our county and are used to serve citizens of our county that need any kind of financial assistance, primarily families, elderly and disabled,” explained Grauel. “I feel people need it the most now, just the way the economy is, so anything that we can get is very much welcomed.” Created in 1994 by the Monroe County Planning Council, Families First addresses the unmet needs of individuals and families in crisis living in Monroe County.

Tomah Health has made similar Doctor Day donations to local organizations for more than 15 years.

The very first Doctors’ Day observance was organized in the state of Georgia on March 30, 1933. Legislation was introduced in both the House and Senate in 1990 establishing a national Doctors’ Day, which was signed into law by then President George Bush.
