Tomah Health is one of 78 hospitals in the Midwest recognized for patient experience by Becker’s Hospital Review, an industry leading print publication.
Becker’s compiled the list using the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) scores from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).
Tomah Health was one of 22 hospitals in Wisconsin with a five-star patient experience summary rating.
Tomah Health Quality / Risk / Compliance Director Shelly Egstad, MASL, RN, said making the list helps quantify the work of staff. “Patient experience is an important part of quality care and considering the challenging times, our hospital staff continued to shine when providing care to our patients,” Egstad said. She added that it is always rewarding to be recognized by those who receive the care.
The HCAHPS summary star rating is the average of the star ratings of the 10 topic-specific HCAHPS measures. Officials said the rating combines information about different aspects of patient experience of care to make it easier to compare hospitals. The figures are from the CMS Hospital Compare website and represent data released Jan. 26, based on data from July 1, 2020, to March 31, 2021 — three quarters rather than the customary four which officials said is fewer months of data, fewer discharged patients and fewer hospitals than normal.
A total of 12 states comprised those in the Midwest area.
