Tomah Health has been recognized by the Wisconsin Hospital Association (WHA) for Excellence in Health Care Quality and Patient Safety.
Tomah Health received the inaugural 2024 WHA Excellence in Health Care Quality and Patient Safety award for participation in the WHA MOVIN program. “The WHA MOVIN program certainly has made a difference for our staff and patients,” said Tomah Health Acute Care director Jessye Buswell. “We know that progressive ambulation is important because it can prevent in hospital decompensation. It can reduce weakness related readmissions, prevent falls and it can also potentially reduce the need for discharge to a skilled nursing facility. We are excited to practice prevention health care on the inpatient unit,” Buswell said of the program which was implemented at Tomah Health in May.
Buswell along with Acute Care staff and hospital CEO Derek Daly accepted the award during the annual WHA Quality Awards Recognition event in Madison Feb. 27.
The WHA Quality and Patient Safety Awards recognized hospitals that advance and improve patient outcomes in Wisconsin in two award categories – Excellence in Health Care Quality and Patient Safety, and Hospital Mentorship and Quality Champion. “We take pride in our member hospitals and their commitment to health care quality. It was our pleasure to celebrate these award winners who have gone above and beyond to ensure top-notch health care quality that Wisconsin residents have become accustomed to and deserve,” said WHA chief quality officer Nadine Allen.
Officials said the Excellence in Health Care Quality and Patient Safety award recognized hospitals committed to taking innovative steps to improve quality, patient safety and patient outcomes. Buswell said Tomah Health is grateful to be recognized in the award’s inaugural year. “Thank you to WHA for seeing our dedication to health care quality and patient safety, and for honoring us with this award.”
