As a Safe Sitter® teaching site, Tomah Health now offers a comprehensive babysitter training program for adolescents in grades 6-8.
Program goals include handling emergencies when caring for younger children and being equally equipped with the tools needed to stay home alone safely.
Students will learn how to prevent unsafe situations and what to do when faced with dangers such as power failures or weather emergencies, plus first aid and rescue skills like choking rescue and CPR. The classes will also highlight child care skills to manage behavior and the stages of child development, as well as diapering. Students will also learn life and business skills like how to screen child care jobs, discuss fees, and greet parents, which will set students up for success.
The cost of the class is $45 and includes the class handbook and lunch.
