Tomah Health CEO Derek Daly is thanking residents, businesses, and organizations for support as the hospital marks National Hospital Week May 13- 18. “Thanks to the support of our community, we all work together to build a stronger hospital which in turn results in a stronger community,” said Daly. “Hospital week is an important week here for us at Tomah Health and the health care industry as a whole. It really is the one week every single year that all of us stop and pause and celebrate a little bit for the work and the dedication that has gone on across our organization.”
Tomah Health is among Wisconsin hospitals and health care systems that provided nearly $2.1 billion in community benefits in fiscal year 2022, according to the Wisconsin Hospital Association’s (WHA) latest Community Benefits Report that highlighted programs, services, and activities across the state that hospitals contributed free, as well as the financial assistance they provided to patients.
Tomah Health provided approximately $6.8 million in community needs this past year. “Tomah Health continues to be committed to giving back to the communities that we serve,” added Daly. “The successes that we have at the hospital are due to the support from the community.” He said Tomah Health continues to look for ways that the hospital can further invest in the community. “Our investment to our area is a driver for services and programs that we offer area residents,” said Daly. “When we succeed so do our communities.”
In 2013, under a new requirement of the Affordable Care Act, hospitals were required to complete a formal community health needs assessment in partnership with public health and other community partners to assess, address and prioritize community health needs.
Daly said Tomah Health is marking this year’s Hospital Week with several events to thank staff for their dedication and commitment to the organization and patients. Fifty-eight staff were singled out for individual years of service and a combined 550 years of service to the organization. “I think the message to the public is that we’ve got a talented and dedicated team of caregivers who has been here for years, and we want to recognize that we want to support that, and we want to thank them for their years of service. I really hope it tells our community that we support our staff who support our patients.”
Tomah Health employs more than 425 staff.
Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers issued a proclamation that recognized the contributions of Wisconsin hospitals and health systems to the communities they serve. Evers’ proclamation lauded Wisconsin hospitals for providing “accessible, compassionate and high-quality health care services to the state’s residents every day of every year, creating opportunities for Wisconsinites to heal from illness or injury and live their best, fullest and healthiest lives.”
